Stretching across southern England into Wales, from Felixstowe through to Cardiff. Each region has its own identity, and the southern areas of England had power and trade as their primary industries which were connected to coal mining from the Welsh Valleys.

The north-east of England, extending from Yorkshire up to Northumberland, covers an area of prominent coal mines, clothing mills and the metal trades.

The north-west area of England covering Staffordshire through to Lancashire were centres for the subterranean industries of coal and salt, the source of power to create pottery, spin cotton and onward trade via transatlantic ports.
